Match Report

Champions Part 2

The first team were first up on Super Saturday and as the title was already secured the team wanted to finish the season on a high. However the first half saw some outrageous shooting by Andy Nye from the Uni which meant we went in at half time losing 7-2. After some frank words from Kevin the team went out with renewed vigour and started to take the game to the Uni. The club eventually drew level but the effort made in getting back into the game began to tell and the youthful and sprightly students pulled away again to finish up winning 11-9. So with the 1st team disappointed it was time to move one with supporting the 2nd team in their quest for the title.

The game started with us knowing that Exeter had to win by a large margin to knock us off the top, providing we won. It was a tense affair and every time we looked to pull ahead the Uni pegged us back. News from the other court filtered across half way through the 2nd half that Exeter in error had defaulted their game in bringing a 3rd first team starter on the pitch and at the same time the Uni pegged us back again to make it 8 all before we scored again and then they scored to make it 9 all. With seconds to go and the playing 8 not aware of what had happened on the other pitch it looked to them as though it has slipped away.....But up stepped Amy in only her 3rd league game to pop in the winner, so job number one was secured in making sure we won. As the squad finished the game and looked across to find out if it was enough, a little skip from the chair as she ran across to the squad confirmed that the club had won both leagues this season.

Thanks to everyone for their hard work and dedication this season and especially the 2 captains (Rach and Arthur), the coach (Kevin) and Sophie for the great development work this season (and Rach last season) that all combined together has made the last 12 months the most successful in BCKC history.
